Technology

The U:fon network uses CDMA 2000 (Code Division Multiple Access) Revision A; it is unique in that it was the first network of the latest Revision A type launched commercially in the Czech Republic. This type of network has many benefits - mainly for the customer.

While the GSM technology, widely deployed in Europe, is considered a second-generation mobile network, CDMA is a third-generation (3G) network, which has a higher capacity and quality and lets the user surf online at speeds of up to 3.1 Mb/s.

The main advantage of the network is that, compared to other mobile technologies, a significantly lower number of BTS is needed to cover the whole territory of the Czech Republic. The lower network construction costs translate into lower voice and data prices for the customer.

For your reference - this type of network is already being used by more than 325 million customers in Japan, South Korea and the USA. CDMA is gaining popularity also in Europe: seven European countries (Norway, Romania, Portugal, Latvia, Belarus, Moldova and the Czech Republic) already have CDMA networks, other networks are being completed for launch in Austria, Poland, Ireland, Denmark and Sweden.
